Institute taps Gov. Locke adviser as new director
Posted: June 1, 2004

Sheila Martin, policy adviser to Washington Gov. Gary Locke, has been named director of the Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies at Portland State. She succeeds Ethan Seltzer, who was appointed director of the School of Urban Studies and Planning last fall. For the past five years Martin has helped lead the creation of Gov. Locke's economic policy agenda, focusing on regional economic development, science and technology, and environmental and consumer-protection policies.

The Institute of Portland Metropolitan Studies, housed in PSU's College of Urban and Public Affairs, works to better connect the University to issues of concern to communities in the six-county Portland-Vancouver region, and to bring new attention to key issues of metropolitan significance. The institute is governed by a community board of directors and operates with a charter from the Oregon state legislature. Visit www.upa.pdx.edu/IMS for more information.
