Hundreds of Young Scientists to Compete in Intel NW Science Expo on Friday, April 4

WHAT: Over 600 middle- and high-school students from schools throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington will present 450 science projects at the 20th-annual Intel Northwest Science Expo, held at Portland State University. Students will compete for scholarships, prizes, and a chance to travel to Cleveland, Ohio for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in May.

WHEN: Friday, April 4, 2003. NOTE: The exhibit hall is open to the public from 2:15 - 3:15 p.m. and from 5 -7:30 p.m. Students will be on-hand at the displays during the 2:15 session.

LOCATION: Peter Stott Center (930 SW Hall, PSU Campus)

COST: The event is free and open to the public during public viewing times (see above).

BACKGROUND: The NWSE is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge. NWSE is a scientific research competition for Oregon and SW Washington students, and is sponsored by Intel, the Center for Science Education at PSU, Vernier Software and Technology, Youth Exploring Science, and many others. The mission of the Intel Northwest Science Expo (NWSE) is to develop scientific talent and promote science literacy in Oregon and SW Washington students, as well as to inspire students to consider science, engineering and math careers.
