Canby High School teacher and graduate of Portland State University's Graduate School of Education, Debra Groves-Harman was nominated for the leadership and development award by the Oregon Council of Teachers of English (OCTE),an affiliate of NCTE. She was elected to the Oregon Council of Teachers of English (OCTE) board two years ago, writing for publications and recruiting conference speakers.

As recipient of the leadership and development award, Groves-Harman will attend the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn., November 16-21. She will also serve a term of service which includes presenting at an affiliate conference, writing an article for an affiliate publication, serving as a member of an affiliate board, and assisting with a workshop for new teachers.
