Michael Driscoll, former executive dean of the Maseeh College, has been named Provost at the University of Alaska Anchorage, effective June 1, 2006. He received the Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in electrical engineering, from Michigan State University in 1983, 1985, and 1988 respectively. At Portland State University, he has served in positions of increasing responsibility since 1988. He began as assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE); he served as associate chair of ECE, then executive dean of the college. Since 2002, he has served as Vice Provost for Academic Personnel and Budget for Portland State University.
His technical interests include high performance computing and the design of high-speed microprocessors and high-performance software. Most of his former students work in the Portland metropolitan area. Many were and are actively involved in the design of the Intel microprocessors.
As his parting gift to the Maseeh College and to Portland State University, Driscoll and his wife Rebecca pledged $25,000 to the Northwest Center for Engineering, Science and Technology as part of a challenge match to the PSU community.
