Faculty Receive Mini-Grants for International Projects
Posted: February 10, 2003

Faculty projects from Mathematics and Statistics to Theater Arts have earned Internationalization Mini-Grants for 2002-2003--the first awards made as a result of President Dan Bernstine's international initiative. Thirteen proposals received grants for incorporating an international dimension into teaching, a program, a scholarly agenda, or professional development. For a full list of this year's award winners.

The grants are administered by the Internationalization Action Council, a committee of faculty and students chaired by Duncan Carter, professor of English and an associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Science. In addition to selecting grant winners, the council, which was formed last year, is directed to draft an Internationalization Action Plan that will be taken to the campus community for review and input.

The Internationalization Mini-Grants can fund a project up to $1,500. A total of $10,500 is available and proposals are due in late December. This year's grant winners are Christine Cress and Vicki Reitenauer, Education and Women's Studies; Marek Elzanowski, Mathematics and Statistics; Suzanne Feeney, Institute for Nonprofit Management; Leslie Hammer, Psychology; Samuel Henry and Jacqueline Temple, Education; Kevin Kecskes and Celine Fitzmaurice, Center for Academic Excellence and Center for Science Education.

Also awarded a mini-grant for 2002-2003 are Karin Magaldi, Theater Arts; Pamela Miller, Social Work; Carol Morgaine, Child and Family Studies; Laura Shainsky, Center for Science Education; Gretta Siegel, Library; Stephen Wadley, Foreign Languages and Literatures; and Manya Wubbold, Foreign Languages and Literatures.
