Bob Edwards, host of National Public Radio's "Morning Edition," will speak at Portland State on May 13, 2004, as part of a promotional tour for his new book, Edward R. Murrow and the Birth of Broadcast Journalism (John Wiley & Sons, 2004). Edwards has hosted the morning newsmagazine program since its premiere in 1979 en route to it becoming the most-listened-to program in public radio, with 13 million listeners each week.
Edwards will offer insights based on his experiences culled from conducting over 800 interviews each year covering politics, international affairs, education, labor, economics, sports, the arts, and entertainment.
The Portland visit follows Edwards' recent announcement that he will be leaving his post at "Morning Edition" on April 30, 2004, to take on new duties as a senior correspondent for NPR news.
