Bernstine travels on trade mission
Posted: October 1, 2003

Earlier this month, President Bernstine joined Gov. Kulongoski and representatives from the Port of Portland, Portland Development Commission and the Oregon Economic Community Development Department (OECDD) on a trade mission to Germany.

Bernstine met with top German executives to discuss Portland State's leading role in providing technology-based companies in the Portland area with engineers, technical assistance, and research support. Portland State already has several research partnerships with national laboratories, research institutes, and universities in Germany in the areas of nanotechnology, photovoltaics, material science and semiconductor applications. Bernstine toured the Intel Munich campus; PSU is one of the top three suppliers of graduates to Intel in the U.S., and is also one of the world's leading providers of graduates to Freightliner, a subsidiary of the German-based DaimlerChrysler.

Bernstine also visited Bologna, Italy, where he joined Portland Mayor Vera Katz in meeting leaders from Portland's newest sister city.
