Author Linda Williams to Speak at Nina Mae Kellogg Awards, May 11

What:
Linda Williams, author and film studies professor, will be the keynote speaker at the 2005 Nina Mae Kellogg Awards-the annual ceremony recognizing students in the Department of English at Portland State University.

This year marks the 41st-annual Nina Mae Kellogg Awards. The awards and lecture were established to honor the memory of Nina Mae Kellogg and her lifelong interest in language and letters.

When:
Wednesday, May 11, 2005
5:30 p.m.- Student Awards
6:30 p.m.- Lecture by Linda Williams
Lecture will be followed by book signing, reception and refreshments.

Where:
PSU Ballroom, Smith Memorial Student Union, room 355 (1825 S.W. Broadway).

Background:
Linda Williams has authored several books including Figures of Desire (1981), a co-edited volume of feminist film criticism (Re-vision, 1984); Viewing Positions (1993), an edited volume on film spectatorship; and Reinventing Film Studies (co-edited with Christine Gledhill, 2000). Williams teaches courses on popular moving-image genres at the University of Colorado, and her research interests include film history and genre, melodrama and pornography, visual culture and feminist theory.

The Nina Mae Kellogg Awards is sponsored by the Nina Mae Kellogg Fund, PSU Department of English, Friends of English, PSU Bookstore, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, PSU Center for Excellence in Writing, Literary Arts Committee, University Speakers Board, Academic Auxiliary Activities Committee, and the PSU Alumni Association.
