What:
Linda Williams, author and film studies professor, will be the keynote speaker at the 2005 Nina Mae Kellogg Awards-the annual ceremony recognizing students in the Department of English at Portland State University.

This year marks the 41st-annual Nina Mae Kellogg Awards. The awards and lecture were established to honor the memory of Nina Mae Kellogg and her lifelong interest in language and letters.

6:30 p.m.- Lecture by Linda Williams
Lecture will be followed by book signing, reception and refreshments.

Background:
Linda Williams has authored several books including Figures of Desire (1981), a co-edited volume of feminist film criticism (Re-vision, 1984); Viewing Positions (1993), an edited volume on film spectatorship; and Reinventing Film Studies (co-edited with Christine Gledhill, 2000). Williams teaches courses on popular moving-image genres at the University of Colorado, and her research interests include film history and genre, melodrama and pornography, visual culture and feminist theory.
