WHAT: Over 700 K-12 students from Oregon and Southwest Washington will compete in Portland State University's 2004 Engineering Design Competitions. This year's categories (and sponsors) include:
* Airplane Design Competition (Society of Automotive Engineers)
* Catapult Competition (Oregon Beta Chapter of Tau Beta Pi)
* Edible Car Competition (PSU's Eta Kappa Nu Chapter)
* Egg Drop Competition (Society of Women Engineers)
* Motor Design Competition (IEEE)
* Mouse Trap-Powered Car Competition (American Society of Mechanical Engineers, PSU Chapter)
* Truss Design Competition (American Society of Civil Engineers)
WHEN: Friday, February 27, 2004, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
LOCATION: Peter Stott Center, Small Gymnasium (930 SW Hall St., room 114)
COST: Attendance at the competition is free and open to the public.

BACKGROUND: The annual design competition is sponsored by PSU's College of Engineering and Computer Science. Participating students will also meet faculty members and tour PSU's engineering and computer science facilities.
