Request for Special Consideration of International Admission Application
Applicants who do not meet academic standards and/or have not fulfilled subject
requirements for entrance to Portland State University may submit additional
information for special consideration by a faculty review committee. Students
who may submit additional information a) have applied within the current academic
year and been denied admission, or b) may be in the process of applying for
admission and are aware that they do not meet the requirements for entrance
to the University.
Students seeking special consideration must submit the following:
- Application for Undergraduate Admission, official (unopened) transcripts from
high and/or colleges attended, and the non-refundable $50.00 application fee.
- Statement of Circumstances: In a typewritten statement, you should clearly
address each of the following: why you would like to attend PSU, fields of
interest/potential academic major, career objectives, information about
previous academic record and circumstances surrounding the request for
special consideration. You are also encouraged to include information about
recent changes and any other information that would aid the committee in its
evaluation of your file. All information is confidential and becomes
part of your Portland State University record.
- Two (2) letters of academic reference: Please include a minimum of two
letters from persons who can support your academic potential. Letters from
counselors and employers are also acceptable in addition to academic recommendations.
- Proof of learning or other disability, if applicable.
After a review of the application and special consideration documents, some applicants may
be contacted for a personal or telephone interview with an admissions counselor. Applicants
will receive a written reply of the committee's decision.
Files for students seeking special consideration are reviewed each term. To receive the
committee's decision in a timely manner, all documents should be submitted by the following

After review of additional documents, some applicants may be asked to visit the
campus for a personal interview with an admissions counselor.
