START Registration

As a newly admitted international student, you have lots of questions. Let us help you! These student transition, arrival, and registration tools will help you with a successful start at Portland State.

All newly admitted students must attend the mandatory International Student Orientation.  Information regarding orientation dates and registration will be e-mailed to new students several weeks before the orientation date.  Please make sure to check your e-mail regularly for important messages and updates.

ESL restricted students (students who have not yet met PSU's English language proficiency requirement):

Students (undergraduate, postbaccalaureate and graduate) whose admission letter and I-20 state that they have an ESL restriction must first take the English placement exam to determine level of placement into ESL courses.  Please visit the following link for exact dates and times for the exam http://www.ielp.pdx.edu/academic_calendar.php .

 

Undergraduate students without an ESL restriction:

Newly admitted freshman students who are not restricted to ESL courses should meet with an academic adviser in the office of Undergraduate Advising & Support Center (Smith Center room 425).

Newly admitted transfer and postbaccalaureate student who are not restricted to ESL courses should meet with an academic adviser in their academic department.

Students who have not yet chosen a major should meet with an academic adviser in the office of Undergraduate Advising & Support Center (Smith Center room 425).

 

Graduate students without an ESL restriction:

Newly admitted graduate students who are not restricted to ESL courses should meet with their departmental academic adviser.  The adviser's name and contact information can be found on the admission letter you received from your academic department.
