On Dec. 10, Michelle Ehlers became the first PSU student to earn a degree while incarcerated at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility. She graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Liberal Studies during a well-attended ceremony made up of fellow students, friends, family and staff who support PSU's Higher Education in Prison Program.

One only has to look to the ecosystem at Portland State to understand why so many graduates are building businesses in our own backyard. At PSU, students are invited to blend classroom lessons with real-world opportunities while also having access to mentorship that informs and opens doors. 

This fall, the Center for Women’s Leadership (CWL) at Portland State University launched its Engaged Scholarship initiative, a new program that will connect and create learning pods of faculty, students, and community members around consequential and mutually beneficial projects.
