Avaya Voicemail and Long Distance Calling Retirement on June 30th, 2024

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) has been in the process of migrating PSU’s traditional Avaya phone service users to Google Voice since 2020. Many individuals have used the Move Phone Number to Google Voice form to transition themselves to Google Voice, and departmental Technology Coordinators have coordinated the migration of many entire departments.

On June 30, 2024, OIT will fully decommission Avaya long distance calling, and the Avaya voicemail platform, when our software maintenance contract ends. Decommissioning long distance, voicemail, and removing related features will free up funding to maintain both the remaining limited Avaya features, and Google Voice, as we continue with Google Voice migrations.

Removing these Avaya features means:

  • Avaya phone lines will no longer have voicemail (voicemail.pdx.edu, 503-725-7000);
  • Domestic and International long distance dialing will no longer be available on Avaya phone lines. (Avaya phone users will only be able to make local calls);
  • The dial by name and department directory currently available at 503-725-2000 will be removed;
  • Avaya users will need to dial full 10 digit phone numbers to reach Google Voice phone service users.

If you have not moved to Google Voice, we encourage you to make the transition as soon as possible in order to not lose functionality by contacting your department’s Technology Coordinator or submitting the Move Phone Number to Google Voice form as soon as possible to avoid service disruption.

Google Voice has several modern capabilities that make it a convenient and easy-to-use phone service! For your reference, here are some useful details about Google Voice and its features.

Please reach out to your Technology Coordinator or email the Telecom team at help-tdc@pdx.edu if you have any questions!
